In 1979, after winning the Nobel Prize, Pakistani physicist Dr. Abdus Salam requested the Indian government to help him find his mentor Professor Anilendra Ganguly.

Professor Anilendra Ganguly had taught mathematics to Dr. Abdus Salam at Sanatan Dharma College in Lahore. Dr. Abdus Salam had to wait for 2 years to find Professor Anilendra Ganguly and finally on 19 January 1981, he met Professor Ganguly in Calcutta.

Professor Ganguly left Lahore after the partition and shifted to Calcutta . When Dr. Abdus Salam reached Professor Ganguly's house to meet him, he saw that he had become very old and weak. He could not even sit up. After meeting him, Dr. Abdus Salam took out his Nobel medal and while giving it to him said that Sir, this medal is the result of your teaching and the love for mathematics that you have instilled in me.

Abdus Salam put the medal around Ganguly's neck and said, "Sir, this is your prize, not mine." This gesture told the Pakistani physicist that even though the country was divided, its values and spirit were alive.

To pay tribute to one's Guru in this way, transcending any dividing lines, shows that this is the best reward a Guru can expect from his disciple.
